Genital Herpes can be caused by any type of herpes either 1 or 2. It may be caused by HSV -1 by oral sex and by HSV-2 from genital exposure. Genital herpes in men are similar to that in women. There are many similar symptoms between them. Initially, the first outbreak occur in between 2-20 days after being infected by virus and they will be invisible within 2-3 weeks. If a person is infected by this virus initially, it is known as “primary herpes.” The symptoms are –

  • Initially Itching,Tingling, or Burning in the genital area.
  • Small, painful red bumps that turn into small blisters in about 24-72 hours. They can appear on the labia, clitoris, vagina, vulva, cervix, anus, thighs, or buttocks in girls and penis, scrotum, anus, or buttocks in boys.
  • Swollen, tender lymph glands in the groin, neck, and under the arms (can remain swollen for up to 6 weeks)
  • Burning, painful feeling if urine passes over the sores; unable to urinate (pee)
  • Headache
  • Muscle ache.
  • Achy, flu-like feeling
  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • “Run-down” feeling
